I would like to express my experience drawing live people. Last night I was hired as a portrait sketch at an event downtown Houston. The weather was balmy and the music was pumping. There was a great crowd of people there. I enjoyed watching everyone approaching the entry towered by the tall gray concrete walls. Everyone was wearing their most fabulous cocktail attire.
Soon, I had my first customer. As the beautiful woman sat before me I started the sketching process. The experience is so intimate. As I studied the facial features it seems like you know what the person is thinking. Within the time I am drawing I can see the range of emotions. Sketching a person for a period of time is so much different from taking a photograph. A photo captures a second where I think a portrait of a person captures their very essence or life in that moment.
I think the greatest reward is seeing the reaction in the person's face at the completion of the sketch.
